Blog: A day of Wondering

Its crazy what boredom can create. You sit there wondering what to do and legitimately have no idea the entire time. Finally you think of something 'I'll go for a drive' next problem. Where? Sometimes anyway is good. Today that was me. I decided to just go out and have a look around, no one else just me and the Skyline. Headed down to Santa Barbara, one would almost think I've crossed to ocean to America with a name like that, but no a little hidden suburb on the Gold Coast. With floods devastating the entire state only a few days ago and with Santa Barbara being on a river it was a little muddy down there. So slow and steady definitely won the race today. Taking it easy on the rounds around the river. However as the title suggests it was a day of wondering and Santa Barbara wasn't the only place I went.

It was time to get in touch with the rich side of society. The people that have everything. So I headed down to Sovereign Island, the Island of the rich, but maybe not famous. This place is like heaven, everything there is like a million times better than the mainland, but damn everything is a million dollars more expensive. Almost half the Island is up for sale and not one property is under the one million mark. Just to put in perspective how likely I am ever going to get a house on the prestigious island. But don't get me wrong, its worth every penny, the houses are amazing, but one thing that let me down was the quality of cars over there. Like really, you have millions buy something nice man. A few BMWs, a few Mercedes but all in all it was your typical rich mans cars. Not too extravagant to break the 'budget' but enough to let everyone know that you got some coin your pocket. There was however 2 standouts, a nice Aston Martin that was sitting in a driveway and a freshly washed 90s Porsche 911, obviously the owners pride and joy by the look of things. But again that was it.

Fortunately the houses were much, much better. I could driver through there all day looking at the spectacular design and completely unnecessary ornaments that stand up to 2m tall in the front garden. Behind the fence obviously. But it complemented the house so nicely, and just makes you smile. But as I continued through and actually decided to read some of the for sale signs I then realized how rich these people were. So you can see the house and what seems to be a single garage door going down under the house right. Wrong, thats not a single garage thats a small car parking lot, one of the houses I saw for sale had a whopping 15 car garage under their house. I couldn't believe it. Two seconds after reading it I had my 15 car list sorted. Because well, if I could own that house, I could more than likely own 15 cars as well... But still it was crazy that you can fit so much into so little. But something else that threw me whilst reading some of these sale signs was the height of the houses, some were up to three and four story houses. Like damn son, just give me a floor and I'll be fine.

However after getting home and reminiscing on the houses I have just seen, I then realized where all the nice cars were... Obviously in their damn 15 car garage of course. So with them not being out on show it was quite disappointing, but I couldn't expect all the rich people to have their cars out for show. As much as I believe they should. But again it made me realize, I only saw maybe 10% of the actual house, like could you even imagine what lies within? With their 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms what they must have to fill the space, because just looking at the house, I know there would be a damn lot of it. But seriously what in the world could you fill all that space with? Everything I own could fit into like one of their bedrooms. And again that put into perspective how far I am away from ever living, or owning a house on the prestigious Sovereign Island.

But driving my R34 Skyline did make it a little bit better, although most of the people didn't seem too pleased hearing my rumbling RB cruising through their quiet streets. But at least some of the younger fellas out on the Island could respect the 4 door boat.
