Dash Lights Complete... Finally

So after like 2 years of me not finishing my dash light change I've finally done it. Many problems were uncovered and almost all were solved. But now, finally I am happy with the way the dash lights look... Finally.

Top: T-5 (Largest) Left: T-3 (Smallest) Right: T-4

I had always planned on changing all the dash lights in the car to the blue it is now. However when I started this project I didn't really know much about the lights or how they changed. My Want to add a caption to this image? Click the Settings icon. first idea was to remove one of each type of light, take it to my local electronics place and get them to tell me what they were... Well this didn't quite work. My first attempted I walked in with 3 different lights. But the store only had 1 of the lights available... Fortunately that was the dominant light that covered the speedo assembly and the gauge cluster. All that was left was the AC unit lights, which were the 2 smaller type of lights.

After looking for agest on the internet for the bulbs and very few places offering sets in 2017 I ended up leaving that project for the time being. However as I was looking at random car parts a new light place caught my eye. They were selling the correct size LED bulbs to fit my AC unit. So I jumped on and ordered some bulbs. They arrived last Monday and I went straight into putting them in. I did the T-4 larger bulbs first. It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but they went in. First attempted didn't seem to work, turns out there is a right and a wrong way to put them in, turned them around and bang works great. I finished up the next 2 and it was starting to look awesome.

I then moved onto the screen behind LEDs, these were the smallest T-3 bulbs. I put them in all which ways and they were just not working. I quickly turned to my automotive champion. AKA my dad. After fiddling around with it for a bit dad got the multimeter out checking power etc on the AC unit. This is when we found out that between the two sets of lights they were running two different voltages. Which was the root cause of our problems. All the lights were 12v lights, however the screen behind AKA T-3 lights were only powered by 5v. Thus more lights were needed to get this completed.

A few days pass as I'm looking for the 'correct' bulbs when I decide to head out to the shop and just pick up some LED lights, these were the right size, however only 2.3v so needed modifying in order to run them properly. Again, back to my dad's place for a little bit of wiring and boom, the new lights were all set up. This time we test them and they work. However another problem has arised... They are very focused and there is a clear dot where the light originates from. However, the unit is lit up and I can now see what it says, especially at night where it was very difficult to see. But like I said, not perfect, needs some refining, and it will get done. I am just happy to finally have a full set of LED dash lights in the skyline.

If you guys have any ideas on how to disperse the light behind the screen I would love to hear it. Or if you've done a similar conversion on your car let me know, because I would love to see how everyone else's conversions worked out.
